Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pertambahan bakteri adalah penyediaaan nutrien yang sesuai untuk kultivasi bakteri, faktor fisika, dan faktor kimia. Meskipun medium yang digunakan amat beragam, namun sebagai makhluk hidup bakteri mempunyai kebutuhan dasar yang sama, yaitu meliputi air, karbon, dan mineral.

Selain itu suplai nutrisi , PH dan suhu juga mempengaruhi pertambahan berat dan ukuran badan secara signifikan .
